20 Indians evacuated from Mali hotel overtaken by extremists

INTERmaliArmed Islamist extremists barged into a luxury hotel in Bamako, Mali, and took 170 people hostage, killing at least 27 of them. 20 of those captured were Indians who were evacuated unharmed.

One source said 27 people were killed in the attack on the Radisson Blu hotel. 12 bodies were found in the basement and 15 bodies on the second floor of the hotel.

Al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb and its offshoot al-Murabitoun claimed they carried out the attack.

Hours after the siege of the hotel the security minister announced the end of the hostage crisis after two gunmen were killed by security forces.

The Indians who were safely evacuated by a team of UN, Mali and French soldiers, were employees of a Dubai-based company.
