UK NRI philanthropist Balwant Grewal, age 80, who is chairman of the Indian Association will undertake a 4,160km walk from Kanyakumari to New Delhi in six months, to raise 1.5 million pounds for various charities.
Mr Grewal will commence his marathon walk on October 25, and finish in Delhi on April 4 next year.
Mr Grewal, known to his friend as Bobby, confirmed that during the charity walk a 4-day Mobile Cancer Screening camp will be held in Patna from February 26 and one in Delhi in April, where some 500 patients will be screened each day.
The funds raised will go to the Great Ormond Street Hospital; Children’s Charity; and the British Asian Trust in the UK, and to deserving causes in India.
The walk will be a challenging one due to Bobby’s age, considering he will turn 81 during the walk. He will be accompanied by a single support vehicle and a project director, a driver, a chef and a physiotherapist.
