According to reports the rape happened when the two were playing, and the boy took the girl to a field and raped her. When the girl got back home she was crying in pain and bleeding and told her family of her ordeal. A medical exam confirmed that the girl had been sexually assaulted and an FIR was registered and the boy sent to a juvenile home in Bareilly.
Police say the boy and his family who were on the run since the incident, were caught and the boy’s first reaction to police questioning was ‘we were just playing’. He eventually did admit to the charges of rape.
At first the police were reluctant to file an FIR and acted only after a group of people from the jatav community protested at the police station.
Activists say there has been an increase in the number of juvenile crimes and children are over-exposed to pornography on the Internet, TV and movies.
