Videos of two women being gang-raped, that are being shared on WhatsApp, shows six rapists smiling into a cellphone camera during the assaults. The videos were discovered by Sunitha Krishnan, a women's rights activist who runs an NGO in Hyderabad. Ms Krishnan uploaded the images onto YouTube and asked viewers to help identify and trace the rapists. She said an acquaintance alerted her to the videos and ten seconds into watching the video she was overcome with horror. Krishnan who herself was the victim of a gang rape by eight men, when she was 15 years old, said people don't come forward with information and she is determined to try and change that, so she asked her film-maker husband to edit the videos to protect the victims identity and highlight the faces of the rapists. Ms Krishnan hopes to meet Maneka Gandhi, Union Minister for Women and Child Welfare, as well as officials in the Union Home Ministry to seek their intervention in locating and punishing the rapists. The National Commission of Women said it will also seek the urgent intervention of the police Meanwhile the footage has been removed by YouTube, stating that 'it violates terms of service'.
