Andhra lawmaker arrested for slapping Air India employee

THESEmreddyP V Mithun Reddy was arrested at Chennai airport for allegedly assaulting an Air India employee at the Tirupati airport last November.

Reddy of the YSR Congress slapped Air India manager Rajasekhar after he refused to issue boarding passes to his relatives for a flight to Delhi, saying they were late. He had gone to the airport to see off YSR Congress chief Y S Jaganmohan Reddy at Renigunta airport when he had an altercation with Mr Rajasekhar.

The YSR Congress dismissed the accusations against Reddy as politically motivated, but the CCTV footage showed the manager being pushed around and threatened by the politician and his supporters.

Rajasekhar’s medical report said he suffered fractures due to the assault and termed his injuries as grievous.

Reddy was absconding since he was booked on charges of assault but he was stopped at Chennai when he was returning from Bangkok with another YSR Congress leader, and the Andhra Pradesh police who had issued a lookout notice for him were alerted.

The YSR Congress said several of its leaders in Chittoor have been placed under house arrest after the arrest of Mithun Reddy.
