Castrations in Punjab – CBI to conduct probe

The Punjab and Haryana high court has ordered a CBI probe into charges of forced castrations of the followers of the Sirsa based Dera Sacha Sauda (DSS). The court passed the orders after a petition was filed by Hansraj Chauhan, a former follower of the DSS, who claimed he and some 400 Sadhus of dera were castrated with the false hope the castrated males would get to meet God through the head of the dera, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh. Chauhan also claimed the castration process was done by Rahim through medical doctors employed in his hospital. The state government had also submitted to the high court information it recorded on statements of seven persons associated with the dera head, in which all seven confirmed that they had been castrated.
