CBI to probe 2 serving major generals for ‘disproportionate assets’

CORRUPcolThe Ministry of Defence has asked the CBI to investigate complaints against 2 major generals for allegedly having assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.

In September the Ministry had red-flagged the promotion of some officers after allegations of impropriety were made.

The CBI will now look into the complaint and report to the ministry.

Explaining the case sources said that a meeting of the Special Promotion Board of the Army was held last year to fill the vacancies of 3 lieutenant generals for which some 33 officers were considered, however a series of complaints against some officers surfaced.

This led to defence minister Manohar Parikar himself looking into the issue and it was discovered that one of the two officers had faced a CBI inquiry some years ago over allegations of corruption.
