Chhattisgarh Power department uncovers Rs.5.44 crore scam

The Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company (CSPDCL) has booked 9 contractors and suspended 14 of its officials in connection with a Rs.5.44 crore scam, by which they duped the department by raising fake bills for moving electricity meters in Bilaspur and Jagdalpur region. According to the department MD, Subodh Singh, the scam came to light after some senior officials came across a suspicious bill in Jagdalpur, a subsequent inquiry on which revealed that some unscrupulous contractors, in connivance with certain officials, were running a racket and duping the department with fake work orders and bills. Singh said an FIR has been registered against 8 contractors and the department has started the process of realising the money from them, They have also been told to pay the amount with an interest rate of 12% within 15 days, or face the consequences of attachment of their properties. Singh said all nine contractors involved in the scam were being blacklisted by the department.
