Crores unearthed by CBI raid on IRS officer

CORRUPirevserThe CBI raided the official and residential locations in Delhi, Mumbai and Patna, of an IRS officer accused of corruption and found Rs.20 crore cash, records of investment of Rs.20 crore more, as well as details of other property. They registered a case against the IRS officer who is a financial advisor and chief accounts officer at the Employees Provident Fund Organisation in Delhi.

The officer Sanjay Kumar, his wife Smita Soni, some unidentified persons, and two firms based in Mumbai and Delhi have been booked by the CBI in the case, and one official said it was alleged that the officer of the Organisation had accumulated assets in his and his family’s names that are disproportionate to his known sources of income.

The IRS officer’s wife had allegedly abetted him in the offence by investing the money through the firms.
