In a first of its kind project that is thought to be a result of the recent Delhi Uber rape case, mini drones fitted with night vision cameras are to be used by Delhi police to patrol the streets of Delhi. The Uber cab rape case re-focused the spotlight on women's security in Delhi as the force decided to patrol unsafe or crime prone areas such as the area where the rape took place. The project will be launched next month. One official said the only areas that will be kept out of the range of the drones will be the LG house, Delhi assembly and Metcalfe House. The drones will fly at a height of 200 metres and cover a hexagonal grid of three to four kilometers. The drones will be linked to Quick Response Teams who will monitor and respond if necessary.
