Eight Indians among Time Magazine’s most influential people

INGENpchopraTennis star Sania Mirza, actress Priyanka Chopra, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, founders of Flipkart Binny Bansal and Sachin Bansal, and RBI Governor Raghuraj Rajan have been named by Time Magazine in its list of the ‘100 Most Influential People in the World’.

Calling Rajan ‘India’s prescient banker Time said he is among a rare breed of economic seers who steered India through the global crisis and fall out. Also while serving as the youngest chief economist of the IMF from 2003 to 2006, Rajan predicted the sub prime crisis that would lead to the Great Recession.

Mirza was also recently awarded India’s third highest civilian honour the Padma Bhushan. Chopra was awarded the Padma Shri this year. Flipkart now has 74 million users and a value of $13 billion.

Chennai born Pichai was said by author Bill Nye to be the Internet’s chief engineer who helped change the world.

Also on the list is NRI actor Aziz Ansari and Raj Panjabi, CEO of Last Mile Health and US NRI Governor of South Carolina, Nikki Haley.
