Family says NRI murdered their son but police ignored follow-up

BACKpplogoAvtar Singh and Paramjit Kaur of Uppli village in Barnala said a US NRI, Munish Prabhakar, who was under the influence of some intoxicant, shot their son his friend in Mohali last October.

The killer was overpowered by onlookers and handed over to the police, but two accessories in the case who are brothers, and who had taken their son Harpreet Singh to Chandigarh were not arrested. The parents believe the murder was pre-planned by the three men. The murder weapon was recovered by the police, but the two suspects drove away from the scene in a car with Delhi number plates.

The grieving parents said they had met senior police officials and sought the arrest of the two suspects, but nothing was done by the police. Thus far no motive for the crime has been released either.

The police deny this and one official said the brothers Iqbal and Chaudhry Bhuttar are part of their investigation and they are awaiting permission from the court to carry out a narco test, after which an analysis would be conducted on the two brothers.
