Foreigners choose India for sex-change operations

BACKsrsMore and more transgenders are choosing India as a destination for sex reassignment surgery (SRS) for its quality care and reasonable cost, of around Rs.350,000 per procedure.

Transgenders from the UK, Serbia, Djibouti, and other countries have chosen India for their SRS procedures, as well as the facial surgical procedures that are required to make a face more feminine in cases of male-to-female SRS.

Thailand however with its trans-friendly policies and accredited medical institutions commands a lion’s share of global sex-change procedures, but India is certainly getting noticed.

There are no official estimates on the numbers of foreigners who have undergone SRS procedures in India, but doctors say patients eagerly and personally spread the news by word of mouth.
