Google Doodle honours legendary cartoonist R K Laxman

BACKrklaxmanLegendary cartoonist R.K. Laxman was honoured with a Google Doodle on the anniversary of his 94th birthday.

The doodle depicts Laxman seated drawing a portrait of his immortal creation ‘The Common Man’ standing beside it.

Born on October 24, 1921, in Mysore Rasipuram Krishnaswamy Iyer Laxman had an ordinary childhood. At an early age Laxman lost his father a school headmaster.

Laxman was rejected by the Sir J J School of Arts in Bombay then joined the Maharaja College, Mysore and earned his BA degree from the Mysore University, then went to Mumbai.

His early works with the Mumbai media were with the Blitz and then to The Free Press Journal as a staff cartoonist.

Laxman, his wife Kamala, son Srinivas and daughter in law Usha lived in Pune.
