Government told Gulf NRIs more important than Western NRIs !

The 3-day Pravasi Bharatiya Divas has ended and VP Mohammad Hamid Ansari who presided over the event presented Pravasi Bharatiya Samman awards to 15 members of the Indian diaspora. Awardees included Guyana President Donald Rabindernauth Ramaotar among others. Mr Nadella was not present to accept his award. Also present were external affairs minister Sushma Swaraj, minister of state for external affairs Gen (retd) V K Singh, Gujarat chief minister Anandiben Patel, and Gujarat governor O P Kohli In his valedictory address to the gathering of over 3000 NRIs and PIOs, Mr. Ansari called for a greater participation of the diaspora in building a new India, as they have valuable experience and resources that they are welcome to replicate in India. The PBD was certainly an important celebrated event, but in one online commentary the government of India was reminded that the western countries particularly the US and UK aren't home to the bulk of NRIs, and their connection to India is not nearly as close and interactive as that of the six million strong diaspora in the Gulf who send the largest number of remittances to India exceeding that of all other NRIs.
