Ashok Khemka the Haryana bureaucrat who was constantly transferred and investigated after he cancelled a land deal involving Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s son-in-law Robert Vadra, has now been promoted to principal secretary.
The government however says Khemka’s promotion may be affected by the outcome of an inquiry ordered against him by the previous Congress government in 2013.
Khemka alleged that he was persecuted by the Congress government after he cancelled the sale of 3.5 acres of land in Gurgaon by Vadra’s company to property giant DLF in 2012.
The BJP that took office in Haryana in 2014 came out in support of Khemka and targeted Vadra and Congress. In the 3 years since, Khemka became one of the state’s most transferred officers with 45 transfers including a demotion.
