Speaking during a book launch during a question answer session, Assam governor PB Acharya said “Hindustan is for Hindus” and no Bangladeshis should be included in the updating of the National Register for Citizens (NRC).
The comment was made regarding the controversy surrounding the Centre’s notification of allowing religious minorities from Pakistan and Bangladesh fleeing persecution to seek shelter in India.
Acharya added that ‘There is nothing wrong with Hindus from different countries staying in India. They cannot be outsiders and nothing is to be feared, but how to accommodate them is a big question to be pondered.
Acharya also expressed concern over Assam and the northeast being in a ‘danger zone’ because of threats from certain ideology groups, that he implied were Islamic terror groups.
