This event is the country’s first sustained car-free citizen initiative that began in Gurgaon in 2013. The movement was conceived and is trademarked with the Raahgiri Foundation. The Raahgiri Day in Gurgaon includes a host of fun and health activities organised on the 4.5-kilometre stretch. The event is now being held at 36 different locations across the country in different names. Several activities such as vinyasa yoga, zumba, dance performances, sports and fitness exercises and other activities including street plays and quiz competitions on various themes are organised on Sundays. According to road safety experts, Raahgiri has created a revolution in spreading awareness about the need for non-motorised transport.
