A shop keeper arranges rakhis (sacred thread) at her shop in Hyderabad ahead of the Raksha Bandhan festival (Aug 18). The annual Raksha Bandhan festival is celebrated by sisters tying a colourful thread around the wrist of her male siblings as a sign of love and affection. Brothers give a small gift and commit to protect their sisters. Over the years the festival has been commercialised. The simple thread now comes with all kinds of fancy decorations, plastic, foam, beads, etc. Rakhis are also imported from China. The rich and famous tie Rakhis made as gold chains and watches studded with diamonds !
