Ice being transported from a factory in Amritsar as temperatures went up all over India. Vendors dealing in cool drinks did brisk business as the heat wave sweeping the nation claimed hundreds of lives. The worst heat wave was in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana taking the toll to over 1,200. There was no respite from the blistering heat as both the states recorded temperatures much higher than the average. The highest temperature of 47°C was recorded at Jangamaheswarapuram in Guntur district. The heat wave, attributed to dry winds from the north-westerly direction, may abate next week.
