A newly wed couple cool off in front of a fan after an hour-long ritual on a hot summer day. The worst ever heat wave has claimed more than 2500 lives. Temperatures hovered between 40 and 45 degrees Celsius. Officials are advising people to remain indoors between 11 am and 4 pm. Workers cannot afford to stay indoors and hospitals are said to be ‘overflowing’ with heatstroke patients. The heat is literally melting the tar on the roads. Several lakes and ponds have dried up and there is a critical shortage of water. Volunteers and charitable organisations have been distributing juices and water to passersby in various localities.
