A Delhi court acquitted a man accused of raping a mother and her daughter, and rebuked the pair for their habit of lodging several false rape cases with ulterior motives including grabbing property.

The judgment came after the woman admitted during cross-examination that she filed a false case at the instance of and in connivance with her mother who had a grudge against the accused.

The court also noted that the woman had, in an earlier case, admitted that her mother filed a false case of rape against a woman school teacher and a man, because the mother was annoyed with the lady and man because they did not support her claim over a plot of land.

The judge also rebuked the prosecution for failing miserably at their job to bring home the guilt of the accused.

President Pratibha Patil's recent clemency policy that commuted the death sentences of 35 convicts, included on man who died almost five years ago. He was sentenced to death for the rape and murder of a teenage girl.

The questionable pardons raised even more doubts on whether the decision was taken in haste based upon inaccurate information provided by the Union home ministry.

Oghad Singh, a marble mine worker, used a sword to behead his daughter Manju 22, because he was enraged over her extra-marital relationships with men. Manju was married three years ago but was estranged from her husband.

Singh walked out of his home holding his daughter's head in one hand and the bloodied sword in the other before a neighbour persuaded him to give himself up in a remote village in Rajasthan.

Police say that in his statement Singh said he pleaded with his daughter to end her affairs and showed no remorse after killing her saying she was insulting him in society.

A social welfare officer and a Red Cross attendant took an 11 year old girl to hospital after she complained of pain. Doctors at the government hospital examined the girl and found she had been sexually assaulted.

Police were informed and it was discovered the girl was raped by Ravi the man who is her mother's lover. The mother who consented to the rape has been arrested after a complaint was filed by the girl's father.

Police are on a hunt for the rapist Ravi.

Asian Games gold medal winning athlete Miss Pinki Pramanik has been remanded to 14 days judicial custody, accused of being a male and charged with rape.

Pramanik has been kept in a separate cell as her gender is disputed and yet to be determined. The court has also directed that the athlete's gender be determined through a medical test at a government hospital forthwith.

Pramanik was arrested after her live-in partner a divorcee and mother of one, filed a complaint with police, accusing Pramanik of being a man who had abused and tortured her. Pramanik was at that time, taken to a private nursing home where test reports showed she was indeed a male.

Pramanik won gold in the 4x400 metres relay at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha, and won a silver medal at the Melbourne Commonwealth Games the same year. She retired from athletics 3 years ago and is now a ticket collector with Eastern Railways.
