Indian artist wins international sand sculpture in Denmark

Indian artist wins international sand sculpture in Denmark Sudarshan Pattnaik of Puri, beat nine participants to win an international sand sculpture championship in Denmark. His 2.5 metre high sculpture of a mermaid pleading for humans to save the oceans was declared the winner of the championship.

Jubilant Pattnaik said it was a free theme event where participants could choose the subject of their sculptures. He chose to draw an awareness sculpture that depicted the issue of climate change and the threat to our seas.

A total of nine countries participated in the eight day event. Artists from Ireland and Russia won the second and third prizes.

Pattnaik has participated in over 50 sand sculpture championships across the globe and has won many awards.




Anand crowned Chess World Champion for 5th time

Anand crowned Chess World Champion for 5th time Indian Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand beat challenger Boris Gelfand of Israel in a tense rapid chess tie-breaker in Moscow, to win the World Championship crown for the fifth time and the fourth in a row. The victory also means Anand will keep the crown till 2014 when the next World Championship will be held.

The hallmark of Anand's success was his speed. Often his opponent Gelfand was seen down to his last seconds when Anand still had a few minutes left on his clock.

After the game Anand said he was too tense to be happy but is really relieved.

Anand bagged his first world title in 2000, and has been world champion since 2007. He will pocket around $1.4 million- 55% of the total prize fund of $2.55 million. Gelfand will get the rest.





Husband arrested for blackmailing wife for dowry by uploading obscene MMS

Husband arrested for blackmailing wife for dowry by uploading obscene MMS Sunny 35, was arrested after his wife reported him to police for uploading an obscene MMS of her on a social networking site.

The woman, a divorcee, met Sunny through a Delhi-based matrimonial site and they were married in January. Sunny who earlier worked with a firm in Singapore was unemployed and had been harassing his wife's family for money and jewellery and beat and abused her when they refused. He would also film her and threaten to upload the clips on the web after her family refused to help him financially.

After the woman's family received the MMS, they lodged a complaint with the woman's cell of the Panchkula police and a case was registered. Police said the victim had injury and bite marks on her body.

The accused was later nabbed by the police in Delhi.

Fake websites collect money for NGOs promoted on Aamir's 'Satyamev Jayate' Aamir Khan's TV show 'Satyamev Jayate' is embroiled in yet another controversy.

At the end of the show Aamir tells viewers to post their views, queries, feedback etc on the site www.satyamevjayate.in, and donate through a bank, to the NGO for which a link is provided where one can donate.

However two fake websites have come up and viewers from across the country have been calling the channel with complaints. They are afraid some of the donations may pass into the wrong hands through the fake sites. The genuine site now posts a message saying 'Please don't make donations or post messages on the fake sites'.

A spokesperson for the TV channel said the channel has decided to take legal action against the unscrupulous people who are involved with the fake websites. Meanwhile they are running a scroll on the channel cautioning viewers.

3D film on Jesus to be made in 9 languages by Keralite The first 3D film on Jesus Christ 'Thirty Pieces of Silver' is to be made in nine languages including English and Malayalam and will be simultaneously released in 5000 cinemas worldwide. Director Kurien Varanasala personally consulted with experts on the Bible. Johny Sagarika will produce.

Shooting will begin by the end of July mainly in the Ramoji Rao Film City in Hyderabad, as well as in Jerusalem and Hampi in Karnataka.

Sagarika said they will introduce Dubai based NRI Jeremy Jairus, and all 12 apostles will also be new faces. The 300 strong cast will include 50 from Kerala. All the technicians will be brought in from abroad.

The pooja of 'Thirty Pieces of Silver' will be held in Kochi on June 5 and will be attended by 35 bishops of Catholic churches and senior ministers. The film is expected to premier next Easter.
