Rajya Sabha erupts in bedlam … The Rajya Sabha was the shocking scene of members tantrums and flying papers, literally, as acrimonious exchanges were rife when the issue of Sri Lankan Tamils came up.

The exchanges occurred between the DMK and Congress member Renuka Chowdhury over remarks she made after adjourning the House for the day.

All in all it was bedlam, as mikes were wrenched and papers thrown into the air, with members calling some remarks totally un-parliamentary.

It is not entirely clear what remarks kicked off the fracas, but it was enough to make Chowdhury later apologise to the House.

Maharashtra MLAs sent to judicial custody for assaulting cop MLAs Kshitij Thakur and Ram Kadam have been remanded to judicial custody till April 5 by the Additional Metropolitan Magistrate for assaulting a traffic police sub-inspector on the State Assembly premises.

The two assaulted Assistant Police inspector Sachin Suryavanshi in the legislature complex.

The MLAs moved for bail but the metropolitan court reserved its order on their applications till Monday, making it necessary for the two to spend at least three days in jail.

Maharashtra legislators suspended for assaulting police officer Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harshwardhan Patil announced the suspension of five legislators for assaulting a police officer on the legislature premises.

The five are Kshitij Thakur, Pradeep Jaiswal, Rajan Salvi (Shiv Sena), Ram Kadam (MNS) and Jaykumar Rawal (BJP). They assaulted Assistant Police inspector Sachin Suryawanshi on the first floor of the legislature building, for allegedly stopping Thakur's vehicle and fining him for speeding a day earlier

The police officer was rushed to hospital for treatment.

Maharashtra legislators beat up cop in Assembly building ! The Maharashtra legislative in Mumbai was adjourned several times as angry members across all parties demanded the suspension of a police officer for 'misbehaving' with legislator Kshitij Thakur.

APE Sachin Suryavanshi allegedly stopped Thakur's vehicle when he was on his way to attend the session. Thakur was fined because his vehicle exceeded the speed limit. An altercation ensued between the legislator and the policemen during which the cop allegedly misbehaved with Thakur.

Thakur moved a breach of privilege notice against Suryavanshi and angered by the account members demanded the suspension of Suryavanshi who was seated in the visitor's gallery at the time.

Thakur identified the policeman and a bunch of MLAs rushed outside the House to grab him and beat him up. He was taken to hospital for treatment.

A detailed inquiry is to be conducted into the incident.

Actress/politician Jaya Prada loses it, threatens to slap reporter ! During a visit to Pratapgarh in Uttar Pradesh, actress turned politician Jaya Prada lost her cool and threatened to slap a reporter who asked a question about her relations with the Samajwadi Party with which she was associated earlier.

Jaya is an independent Lok Sabha MP from Rampur, Uttar Pradesh. She and her political mentor Amar Singh were sacked by the UP ruling party after the latter's relations soured with some senior leaders.
