Pawar’s NCP promotes tainted minister Bhaskar Jadhav

Bhaskar Jadhav, Maharashtra's minister of state for Urban Development has been appointed state president of the Nationalist Congress party. Jadhav had earlier come under fire for a lavish wedding that he hosted for his son and daughter, while parts of the state faced severe drought. The BJP in Maharashtra strongly condemned Jadhav's appointment as state party president. It is believed Pawar wanted to revamp the party ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha and Maharashtra Assembly elections.
UP minister Singh calls Mayawati 'ugly' !

Addressing his party workers in Ghazipur, UP tourism minister Om Prakash Singh called Mayawati 'ugly and launched a personal attack on the BSP chief. In a video posted by a news channel Singh is seen saying "If you can bear an ugly woman like Mayawati for 5 years, then you will not have a problem tolerating our party leaders for a half hour or so..."

Ramveer Upadhyay a minister in the previous Mayawati government, was stripped of his Y security cover when the Samajwadi Party came to power in Uttar Pradesh. Upadhyay however filed a plea saying he needs police protection given that he was attacked six times in the past. The Bench refused to pass an order on the plea saying he should file an application before the Allahabad High Court, before whom his case pertaining to police protection is pending. It said however that it would hear his case and require the assistance of the counsel of the Uttar Pradesh government to ascertain the type of threat perception Mr. Upadhyay, a BSP leader, faces.
Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit indicted for misuse of government funds

The Delhi Lokayukta has indicted chief minister Sheila Dikshit for misusing government funds on an Ad campaign with a 'political purpose' ahead of assembly elections in 2008. A Lokayukta Justice recommends President Pranab Mukherjee caution Dikshit for the alleged misuse of public funds and advises her to reimburse herself or through her party, a sum of Rs.11 crore as half the cost of the advertisements, or any amount the President finds appropriate. An inquiry into the matter was made by the Lokayukta after a complaint was filed by Vijender Gupta, former Delhi BJP president, in which he charged the chief minister with abusing her position. He alleged that government machinery, especially the department of information and publicity was instructed to make a plan to project her in a positive light to gain advantage during the election. The then director of the information and publicity department, Uday Sahay, had disclosed Ms Dixit's so-called strategy.
Congress legislator gets life sentence for murder

Jharkhand Congress legislator Sawana Lakra and three others have been convicted for the abduction and murder of young Avinash Tiwari. Lakra was accused in the murder of Avinash who was reportedly in love with his niece. Tiwari went missing in 2011 after he was abducted by the legislator's men the same day. The bullet riddled body of the lad was found days later and police investigations discovered that the legislator was behind the abduction and killing of Tiwari. Other than the Congress legislator others named in the case include his bodyguard, driver and another person, who have all been awarded life sentences. Lakra plans to move a higher court against the judgment.
