India's Department of Telecom, infamous for blocking sites on the basis of a complaint, has now blocked 32 websites including Vimeo, a YouTube like video host, and GitHub, a site used by software developers to host and share codes. The difference this time is websites that allow users to share URLs are primary victims and also include Pastebin, Archive.org, Pastie and CryptBin among others. Arvind Gupta, the head of BJP4's IT Cell on Twitter said the websites were blocked due to security reasons based on an advisory by the Anti terrorism Squad that says they were carrying Anti India content from ISIS. The sites that have removed objectionable content or cooperated with the on going investigations are being unblocked. This does not explain why Vimeo and GitHub that host computer codes and are used by developers and technology companies have been blocked.
