India and China have signed a record 24 agreements worth $22 billion, that include education, railways, and cooperation among others. Protocol for setting up Consulates-General at Chengdu and Chennai and an MoU on consultative mechanisms for cooperation in trade negotiations were also among the 24 agreements signed.
Four agreements were signed on sister-state and sister-city relations between Karnataka and Sichuan province; Chennai and Chongqing; Hyderabad and Qingdo; and Aurangabad and Dunhuang.
Agreements were also signed on setting up a Mahatma Gandhi skill centre in Ahmedabad as well as a broadcast tie-up for Doordarshan and China’s state-run CCTV.
PM Modi said both countries reiterated a strong commitment to make all efforts to maintain peace in the border region.
