India protests deportation of Indian students from US

INTERaindiaThe ministry of external affairs announced that they had strongly taken up the matter of the recent deportation of Indian students who were headed to two California universities, and instead were detained then deported.

Some of the students also said they were questioned by the FBI for long hours and others said they were kept in a cell for 3 days before being deported.

Air India said it was told by the US Customs and Border protection agency that the universities in question were under scrutiny and the students were not permitted to enter the US.

The universities denied this and said they were told by the US Customs and Border Protection that they have not been blacklisted by the US Government or any of its agencies. The students were deported on the advice of the US Immigration Authority, whose orders Air India is duty bound to follow.
