According to a report by the Internet and Mobile Association India and IMRB International the number of Internet users in India is expected to grow 32 percent to 302 million this year and is to grow to 354 million by mid 2015. Currently India has the third largest Internet user base in the world but with the estimated growth India will overtake the US as the second largest Internet user base in the world by December-end. At present China leads with over 600 million users, while the US has an estimated 279 million users. Of India's 278 million users, 177 million are in urban India, a number that is expected to grow to 190 million by December and 216 million by mid 2015. The report said there is a huge spurt in the number of people accessing the Internet on a daily basis in urban India. Most of these use the Internet primarily for searches, followed by online communication and social networking. In rural India entertainment is the primary reason for Internet usage, followed by communication and social networking.
