Indian Institute of Technology opens in Kerala

BACKiitKerala’s dream of having an Indian Institute of Technology has become a reality, with the opening of an elite institute of engineering at Palghat.

The 18th IIT in the country that was sanctioned by the NDA government last year, is the first of five newly approved IITs to begin classes. It started functioning under the mentorship of IIT, Chennai with 117 students including six from the state. The rest are from north India.

To begin with the IIT will offer B Tech courses in civil engineering, computer science & engineering, electrical engineering and mechanical engineering, and each class will have 30 seats.

Prof. P B Sunil Kumar will hold charge of the new institute that will initially have a 10-member faculty.
