In a report by Monster India a leading online career and recruitment solutions provider, the IT sector with a median gross salary of Rs.341.8 per hour, is the most lucrative sector in India, followed by finance where employees are paid Rs.291 per hour. The median gross salary in the construction sector is Rs.259 per hour, education is Rs.186.5, health care Rs.215, legal Rs.215.6, manufacturing and transport is Rs.230.9. Commenting on the findings Monster Indian MD (India/Middle East/Southeast Asia/Hong Kong) Sanjay Modi said the country is on the edge of a new wave of development that is expected to deliver jobs and prosperity to millions, which has a direct correlation with salary/income. Meanwhile the gender pay gap remains imbalanced as on average women earn around 34 percent less than men in the IT sector and in the finance sector they earn about 19 percent less. The Monster Salary Index is an initiative by Monster India in collaboration with Paycheck.in and IIM Ahmedabad as a research partner. The analysis covers the first quarter of 2012 up to December 2014.
