Indian-origin Al Qaeda operative arrested in Saudi Arabia

sabeel-terrorDr. Sabeel Ahmed, a terror operative known for recruiting Indian youths for Pakistan-based terror groups including Al Qaeda and Lashkar e Taiba, has been detained by the Saudi Arabia police.

A former Bangalore resident, Ahmed’s brother Kafeel had carried out a suicide attack at Glasgow airport in 2007, in which he died.

Sabeel was later deported to India by the UK and had moved to Saudi Arabia. There is a lookout circular against him and he is also wanted by the NIA in a terror recruitment case.

Reports say discreet verification is currently in progress with Saudi authorities to confirm his identity and return him to India. Ahmed was charge sheeted in June by the Delhi police Special Cell for his role as an Al Qaeda operative in the Indian Subcontinent.
