Indians earn highest for finding bugs in Facebook

facebookIndia earned the largest share of Facebook’s bug bounty programme in the first half of this year, beating out the US and Mexico.

Facebook paid a total of $611,741 to 149 researchers as part of the programme.

A bug is an error or defect in software or hardware that causes a programme to malfunction. It often occurs because of conflicts in software when applications are run in tandem.

In a blog post Facebook said they received over 9000 reports in the first half of 2016.  The top 3 countries were India, USA and Mexico.

India is home to Facebook’s second largest user-base with 155 million monthly active users and 77 million daily active users.

The 5-year old programme has seen over $5 million in payouts to over 900 researchers across the world.
