Indians top list of new migrants in Australia

According to a new report Indians topped the list of new migrants in Australia with over 40,000 applying to migrate during 2012 – 2013. The International Migration Outlook said that some 123,400 people applied to become Australian citizens in 2012 – 13. China had 27,300 applications and the UK had 21,700. Migration Law expert Sharon Harris said India and China are the most prolific source countries for pursuing visas and ultimately citizenship. Also, the change in governments is particularly popular with Chinese citizens. The report also disclosed that 62,700 people whose temporary visas had expired or been cancelled are living illegally in Australia.
