India’s roads claim 16 deaths every hour !

BACKracciIndia’s roads were at their worst in 2014, claiming over 16 lives every hour on average as over 140,000 people died in crashes, 3% more than the fatalities in the previous year.

According to the latest data by the National Crime Records Bureau, speeding and dangerous driving were the biggest reasons for road fatalities and two-wheelers and trucks accounted for nearly half of the lives lost in road crashes.

The states leading the list are Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Rajasthan that accounted for over 40% of the fatalities. Among cities Delhi led the number of fatalities followed by Chennai, Bhopal and Jaipur.

Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan and West Bengal contributed highly to deaths on expressways.
