India’s visa-on-arrival now called ‘e-tourist visa’

The government has decided to rename the tourist visa-on-arrival scheme. The scheme is to be known as the ‘e-tourist visa’ scheme with immediate effect, in an effort to avoid inconveniencing foreign tourists who were misled by the nomenclature and flew into India presuming they would be granted a visa on arrival upon landing.

The home ministry also referred to requests it had received from some Indian embassies requesting a change in the nomenclature of the scheme.
