Jain monk wants 8 months to walk to court for summons !

MERAjmonksA Jain monk who has been summoned to court says he needs 8 months to walk the distance from Kolkata to the court in Ahmedabad, because he cannot use a vehicle as he has renounced the world.

The monk, Acharya Kirti Yashurishwarji Maharaj, 60, who is charged with forging a government document said he can only walk a few km a day because of a spinal injury and his old age. He also promised the court that his absence would not hinder the proceedings.

The government document he forged concerns the recruitment of children into Jain monasteries, a practice that the Gujarat High Court intends to curb.

The Court rejected the request and issued a fresh warrant against him and told him to appear next month.
