The government of Karnataka has now appealed against the verdict clearing politician Jayalitha Jayaram of corruption, which enabled her to return as chief minister of Tamil Nadu in May. The case was heard in Karnataka because of concerns the process would not be fair in Tamil Nadu.
Karnataka contends that the verdict was riddled with errors and the figures were entirely wrong
The Karnataka government has now filed an appeal in the Supreme Court asking that the verdict be set aside and Jayalalitha’s disqualification be restored.
The Supreme Court is expected to hear the appeal in a few weeks after the end of court vacations.
