Kerala establishes NRI Commission

ISSUEocAn NRI Commission with quasi judicial powers will be constituted in Kerala to protect the interests of NRIs from the state and ensure they get all the benefits of the rules enforced in the state.

Speaking in Thiruvananthapuram Chief Minister Oomen Chandy said the commission with have a retired High Court judge as its chairman and it will be headquartered in the state capital and conduct sittings once every 3 months.

A retired IAS officer and 2 NRIs will also form part of the commission that will also protect the interests and properties of the NRI diaspora that is the state’s backbone of remittances to Kerala.
