Maharashtra Minister Eknath Khadse resigns amidst corruption charges

Eknath KadseIn the midst of a storm over allegations of corruption including irregularities in a land deal, Maharashtra Revenue Minister Eknath Khadse has resigned his post, after the central leadership of the BJP sent him a stern, clear signal that he had no option but to quit as his continuance would damage the image of the ministry and the party.

Khadse who was considered ‘number two’ in the Cabinet and handled some vital portfolios, has been facing the heat over allegations and irregularities in a land deal in Pune, when he paid much less than the market price for a 3 acre plot of land, and for allegedly receiving calls from mob don Dawood Ibahim’s residence in Karachi, besides an alleged bribe was sought by his PA.

The Congress and NCP parties as well as the Shiv Sena had also demanded Khadse be removed from the cabinet.
