''Messenger of God'' – ban being petitioned

A petition was filed before the High Court by the Mohali Sikh body – Kalgidhar Sewak Jatha, seeking a ban on the screening of the film "Messenger of God" (MSG) in Punjab and Haryana on the grounds it would be a serious threat to the law and order situation and peace in the two states. It was argued that that the hero of the film and head of Dera Sacha Sauda, Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has tried to project himself as the title character, while he is an accused in several crimes including rape, murder, and castration of his followers, cases that are being investigated by the CBI. The petitioner also objected to certain dialogue in the movie. It is also claimed that the Dera head obtained clearance of the movie from the censor board because of his influence, which is evident from the resignation by censor board chief Leela Samson, and other board members, in protest.
