At an event where PM Narendra Modi launched ‘Digital India’ Week, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani committed Rs.250,000 crore on the initiative, saying he expects it will create over 500,000 direct and indirect jobs.
He said Digital India empowers the youth of India to fulfill their aspirations and be a huge success. His group will roll out an Internet protocol based wireless broadband infrastructure across all 29 states in India. Reliance Jio will also set up a nationwide distribution network for 150,000 small vendors to sell and service devices.
Other CEOs from India and abroad also committed an investment of Rs.4.5 lakh crore for the ambitious campaign to provide telephony and fast Internet for all.
The launch ceremony of Digital India week by Modi at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Delhi was attended by the who’s who of India Inc, and executives of a number of foreign companies who committed huge investments in creation of infrastructure and set up of manufacturing units.
