Now India gets a Yoga Minister

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has appointed Shripad Yesso Naik as Yoga Minister, in a major revamp of his government, in a bid to promote the ancient practice. Modi has appointed 21 new ministers with the aim to speed up reforms and revive the faltering economy. Among the portfolios designated was that of AAYUSH, whose minister will be charged with promoting the traditional medicines and practices of Ayurveda, naturopathy, Unani Siddha and homeopathy. AAYUSH was previously part of the health minister's responsibility but has now become a separate portfolio with former tourism minister Naik taking charge. Among other changes regional leader Manohar Parrikar was given the defence ministry a move that will ease the burden on Arun Jaitley who had both defence and finance ministries. Jaitley has also taken information and broadcasting under the revamp. Railways was handed over to Suresh Prabhu a veteran leader of the Shiv Sena Party who recently switched allegiance to the ruling BJP.
