Following on a complaint that was filed by freelance writer Ahmer Khan, that alleged Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani gave inconsistent details about her educational qualifications while filing nominations for her candidature in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha polls, a Delhi court has admitted a petition challenging the case. The hearing has been scheduled for August 28.
The complaint also says Irani allegedly also lied on oath about her assets thereby inviting action for offences under the Representation of the People Act.
The court order is seen as a setback for Minister Irani, a former TV actress, who is the youngest minister in PM Narendra Modi’s cabinet.
This case follows the arrest of Delhi Law Minister Jitender Singh Tomar who quit his post after he was accused of forgery and cheating and sent to jail for falsifying his law degree.
