Congressman Ami Bera, 49, has been re-elected to the US House of Representatives in a close race from California, where he led his republican rival Doug Ose by a margin of 1432 votes. Bera got 92,394 votes. In a statement Bera said it has been his honour to serve the community as a doctor for the last 19 years and he is grateful to have the opportunity to continue serving as the representative for California's 7th Congressional District in Congress. Former President Bill Clinton had campaigned for him and First Lady Michelle Obama had organised phone calls seeking votes in his favour. Bera is only the third ever US NRI to be elected to the House of Representatives.
