NRI appointed police commissioner of Kuala Lumpur police

INGENasinghDeputy Commissioner Amar Singh has been appointed the police commissioner of Malaysia’s capital Kuala Lumpur. This is the highest police rank achieved by a Sikh in the Muslim majority country.

Mr Singh, in his 50s, will replace Tajuddin Mohamed who will move to federal headquarters as the deputy director of commercial CID.

Amar Singh is a third generation policeman from his family. His father joined the force in 1939 after moving to Malaysia from Punjab. Amar’s maternal grandfather Bachan Singh was a constable who joined the force in the early 1900s.

Amar graduated from the University of Malaya in Kuala Lumpur and did his LLB from the University of Buckingham, UK. He has a diploma in Sharia Law.
