NRI Barve to lead new House panel in Maryland, USA

Kumar P Barve, 56, the first US NRI to be elected to a US state legislature, is to lead the new Environment and Transportation Committee in Maryland. He has served since 2000 as House majority leader and has been a member of the House Ways and Means Committee. Barve who has been a delegate since 1001, will leave his seat on the Ways and Means Committee to assume his post with the new Committee that will deal with both environmental and transportation issues. Barve believes the decision to bring together both subjects under one committee is a smart and sensible move. In his new role, Barve said fellow lawmakers and constituents can expect him to be an impartial leader and a proponent of roads and transit.
