A Mohali court of an additional sessions judge has ruled that the video of Australian NRI Amit Saini being tortured by police is genuine. DSP Rajinder Singh Sohal and SP Balwinder Singh had said the video was fake and had been tampered with and what's more the complainant in the case Munshi Dharam Chand and witness constable Sandeep Singh also admitted to their presence in the video footage, which they had earlier denied. The court also asked that the video be checked for authenticity by the Central Forensic Science Laboratory who found the footage authentic and genuine. NRI Amit Saini had alleged that in 2013 when he went to India to get married, he saw a friend being harassed by police and when he intervened he was put behind bars and tortured and cops urinated in his mouth and repeatedly beat him in his private parts. During the torture Saini's jaw bone was broken and no medical help was provided even though he asked for help several times. After his release a dentist reported a fractured jaw that was not mentioned by the medical officer during a check up. The police officers who tortured Saini were DSP Rajinder Singh Sohal, SP Swarandeep Singh, SP Balwinder Singh and SHO Samarvaneet Singh as well as other junior policemen. Saini also alleged that the SP demanded Rs.50 lakhs to release him and clear him of all charges. Saini has filed a case against the 10 police officials and 2 medical officers of Mohali. A hearing has been adjourned for further evidence.
