NRI booked for abetting elderly man’s suicide

nribookedThe accused was identified as Harpreet Singh of New Model Town, in Punjab, who is an NRI and lives in Canada.

In his police complaint, Gurjeet Singh said his 65-year old father, Krishan Pal, had bought a kothi for Rs. 2.47 crores from Harpreet last year. He added that even after his father requested the accused to get the kothi registered in their name, he kept delaying the matter.

The complainant said after some time, the patience of his father ran out. He added that on August 24 this year, his father shot himself dead with his revolver.

Police officials said at the time of the incident, proceedings under section 174 of Cr PC were conducted by police. They added that after conducting autopsy and getting a written complaint from deceased’s son, Sahnewal police registered a case under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) against the accused.

Investigating officer of the case Randhir Singh said the accused is in Canada. He added that they are going to inform the Canadian Embassy and issue a look out circular (LOC) against the accused.
