Underworld don Chhota Rajan who was deported from Indonesia returned to India accompanied by three CBI officials. The CBI says Rajan’s arrest was not a surrender but a carefully planned meticulous operation to capture one of India’s most wanted criminals. He is wanted in over 75 crimes including murder, extortion, smuggling and drug trafficking.
Chhota Rajan 55, whose real name is Rajendra Sadashiv Nikalje was whisked away from the Delhi airport and taken to CBI headquarters where a team of officials proceeded to question him.
Sources say due to security concerns Rajan will not be taken to a Delhi court, instead a magistrate will be brought to the CBI headquarters for his remand, and for a mandatory medical check-up. Incidentally Rajan is on dialysis as both his kidneys are affected.
Rajan is expected to be housed in Delhi where he will also be questioned by sleuths of various investigating agencies on his claims of having further evidence to nail India’s most wanted terrorist Dawood Ibrahim and his links with Pakistan’s ISI.
Rajan told media in Bali he was happy to return to India and rubbished reports that his arrest was orchestrated as he was being threatened by Dawood’s men. He had expressed hesitation over plans to lodge him in a Mumbai jail, fearing that Dawood may target him there as ‘some in the Mumbai police have links with Dawood’.
